In the 16th century, Leonardo da Vinci was creating maps that looked almost like modern satellite images. He designed several flying machines with mechanical wings, a parachute, and a lightweight hang glider that could actually glide.

Leonardo’s notebooks also include designs for cannons that could launch small stones like a storm. One surprising fact about him is that he used to write with his left hand and often wrote in mirror script, using reversed letters so others couldn’t easily read it.

The woman in one of his most famous paintings became a mystery for centuries because of her soft, enigmatic smile. Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, engineer, architect, inventor, and a student of every aspect of science. His natural genius spread across so many fields that people called him the “Renaissance Man.”
